It has been a busy start to the 2009-10 school year. The K-2 staff started using a new assessment tool called Wireless Generation. They now assess their students in both reading and math to determine their grade level proficiency. The same is true for 3rd and 4th grade but their program is called Acuity. We begin assessing the 3rd and 4th grade students at the beginning of October. These assessments will help us meet the specific needs of our students. It has been busy in the High School also. The math department is using a program called Acellus to augment instruction. Acellus allows students to work on their own in developing their math skills. This will be a great tool in preparing students for their End of Course Assessments which are now required by the state.
We are also introducing Rosetta Stone to augment classroom instruction. Rosetta Stone is a program used by many large companies to teach a foreign language to their employees. Students will be able to log-on to Rosetta Stone and receive a lesson in Spanish, German or French. The program even analyzes how well the student pronounces the words. Elementary students who attend Safe Haven will also have the opportunity to learn Spanish.
We are continuing to add more rigorous classes to our curriculum. Biomedical Science is an example. Students can earn college credit beginning as a Freshman and by the time they leave LaCrosse they can easily have a semester worth of college credit
